An InRoads user asked for Mark's help with this question :
Mark, dude...
Do you happen to know any way to either Export or print the Style Manager? I'm trying to figure out a way to review my XIN information a little easier.
-Jose
Here is the Zen Dude's response:
Hey Jose!
That's a great question! I used to struggle and struggle with pasting screen shots of the InRoads settings into Word whenever I wanted to document what was set up. But times have changed for the better for once.
1. Go to InRoads > Tools > View XML Reports...
2. Go to File > Open ... in the upper corner of the Bentley Civil Report Browser.
3. At the bottom of the Open dialog box is the Files of type drop-down. Very few people know that you can open an XIN ...or an ITL!!! ... or an IRD!!! Ya, it's true!!! InRoads can potentially report on anything in those files. How is that possible you ask? (You DID ask that, didn't you : ) ... it's because they are written in XML, that's how!! 4. Set it to Preferences (*.xin) and then Browse and find your XIN. ... Aren't you getting excited!!! : )
Below, in the folders of the Report Browser, are the "formatting" Style Sheets. When you select a Style Sheet the data (in this case the XIN) will be reformatted based on the way that Style sheet was created or designed to show the data. Certain report Style Sheets show some data and others show other data ... it's not magic. The trick is to find the Style Sheet that formats the data the way you want it or need it. Now, usually the 'data' is something coming from a DTM or ALG file, but an XIN is also a form of "data", that's why this works. The only drawback is that the Style Sheets delivered with InRoads are primarily written for actual project data ... not the XIN content, so there are not a lot of pre-created Style Sheets for the XIN.
6. Scrolling down to the bottom you should see a folder called XIN with a couple XSL Style Sheets in it.
The information presented in this report is configurable by editing the XSL
Style Sheet if you are XML savvy enough. (You can always pay me to do it for you though ... plug ; )
8. We're not done yet. Now, right-click in the larger reporting window to export this report to various formats like Excel. Fabamundo, right?
9. Presto-chango ... Excel Report....
10. Now just save it!!!
I hope this helps.
Civilly yours,
-zen
