An InRoads user asked for Mark's help with installing InRoads:
Zen,
Quick questions: When we install InRoads, the applications menu in MicroStation does not come up . . . Is this standard? Are we doing something wrong or is there another step that has to be done after the Installation of InRoads?
PS: Trying to install InRoads V80.11.07.615. I uninstalled the previous version, rebooted and installed the new version. Rebooted and opened up MicroStation. Does this have anything to do with it?
Thanks,
The G-man
Here is the Zen Dude's response:
Hello G-man!
It's odd, sometimes I see this behavior and sometimes I don't, and I really don't know exactly why. This type of configuration isn't my strong suit. But I understand enough to fix it.
Here's the deal. When you open InRoads, the Application menu appears on the MicroStation Main Menubar.
Then if you close InRoads, the Application category remains and then can be used to re-launch InRoads (or whatever other module you want and have a license for).
But if you just open MicroStation, by picking it from a desktop icon or maybe double-clicking on a MicroStation file, that Application menu to launch InRoads isn't always there.
So try this:
1) Create a new text document on your desktop or somewhere with Notepad or other simple text editor. (It doesn't matter because you're going to move it anyway.
2) Name the file LoadInRoads.cfg
3) Open that text file and add this one line to the file - Load_InRoads_SS2=1
4) Save that config file
5) Now move that file into the ...\config\system folder. That folder is located wherever MicroStation is installed. My full path was C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)MicroStation\config\system(I'm on Windows 8). So, just drop that file into that folder (and say a little prayer that you have permissions).
6) Now when you launch straight MicroStation the Applications menu should be available.
Good Luck!!
Civilly yours,
