A student in one of Mark's recent training classes asked for his help with this question on building up a Preference file:
Dear Zen Dude,
The project I am working on has two preference files (XIN) and there are some Named Symbology with associated Styles that I would like to grab from one of the XIN in order to add it to the other (that way we can use one XIN). Is there a way to do that or do I need to re create the Named Symbology and Styles?
Sincerely,
Bree
Here is the Zen Dude's response:
Hi Bree!!
It's nice to hear from you!
Here's the scoop on that . . . super-easy:
1) Fire up InRoads and get open the XIN that you want to pull stuff into.
2) Go to InRoads > Tools > Application Add-ins
3) In the Application Add-ins toggle on Copy Preference Add-in. That will add a new tool set to your InRoads menu.
4) Now go to Tools > Copy Preferences
5) When you pick that, the Copy Preference dialog will open.
6) Next to the place where it says Source Preference File there is a button that looks like (...) three dots.
7) Click that and browse to the XIN that you want to steal stuff from.
8) After you Open that you'll see all of the settings that are in there.
9) Just highlight the Styles that you want in the Available Styles list window. And toggle on the correct button at the bottom to either Leave Existing or Replace.
10) Click Apply and it will copy all of those Styles and associated Named Symbologies into the XIN that you are currently using in InRoads.
Got it? . . . Let me know how it goes!!
Civilly yours,
- zen
